In this case, a portion of the spine was missing and leather had to be replaced. I rebacked the book, so there is new leather under the old spine. You can see the crack down the middle; the leather on the left is new the leather on the right, old.

Have you ever seen a book covered in marbled paper where the edges have all worn away? It’s a common sight in my world. Here is a restoration of that problem. I repapered the edges and then hand marbled them to match the paper that was left.
